Tissue Paper Candy Jars

Stuff Needed

  • small orange juice cans, thoroughly washed and dried
  • non-toxic glue
  • tissue paper
  • plastic tablecloth
  • small paintbrush
  • pie tin or other sturdy container

Set up your child's work area by covering it with a plastic tablecloth. Provide tissue paper, glue, and a small orange juice can that has been thoroughly washed and dried. Have your child tear the tissue paper into small pieces and glue these onto the can. After the glue has dried, give your child a small paintbrush and some more glue in a pie tin or other sturdy container. Have him use the paintbrush to cover the tissue paper on the can with glue. This will harden into a sturdy shiny surface that will last longer.

If you are planning a birthday party for your child, save enough cans to serve as party favors for all the guests. Let your child work on one can each day for a week or so to prepare them for the party. Then let your child chose the type of candy he would like to fill the cans with, and help him do this on the day of the party.
